WEEKLY UPDATE

It's hard to say if it was just an off night between the pipes or the pressure of the return of the Commish, but the difference in this one was the goal tending. Tree answered the bell, allowing only two goals on the night & leading the White boys to a blowout win. JD returned to the line up & as is usually the case, scored two goals early on, neither one was pretty but they opened the scoring & shook the confidence of yours truly. The Dark squad showed plenty of jump & looked like they were going to cut into the lead as Spanky made an end to end rush. Using his speed & moves he looked less like that fine Jewish boy we know & love & more like a European import of the Nordic persuasion, then his shot wide on an open net. We now know he is not Finish! Back to the Whites, with the game still close a goal from Tony Romo & two more from Quiet Brian stretched the lead to five. On defense for the Whites Rusty, Johnny Longpants, & Tiny Tim continued to frustrate the Darkies. After the first Dark goal Digger picked up a goal followed by a couple from Rudy who was as fast & physical all game, but Crabby did a nice job keeping him in check with some physical play of his own. Spongee enjoyed the laugher finding himself on the doorstep with a chance to score on a couple of occasions. Oddly though, the closest he came was his pattented slap shot breakout from beside his own net that finally found its way on goal forcing a save. The Commish played well in his return & was his usual chirping self claiming to be the reason for the White teams success.
The Darkies deserved a better effort in goal, Murph was in a much better mood this week & did a nice job & Fricker continues to play well. Jaybird had a nice save on a sure goal after the puck slid through me & towards an open net. Shooter & Daddy Pat did their part but Tree was spectacular when he needed to be. Curty, Liam & Kevin also had a quiet night on the scoreboard but did a good job in their own zone. Next week I will try not to suck. I think the White team is getting into my head, just this morning I saw Johnny Longpants out front of the job site in Center City. What's next, will Chuck show up at my doctor seeking treatment for a bad case of slewfoot?
At least the LaBatt's were cold.

Is there any chance you could shorten the blog headline articles. It's tough enough for me to get time to get on here and then I have to read for 12 hours just to catch up. So some of my responses:
1. Why don't you just race real cars?
2. I hope Commish is feeling better and gets back on the ice.
3. You might want to go w/ a tree hugger so she can grow you vegetables and kill your dinner when you can't afford anything in this economy.
4. Again, I'm disturbed that you found my SI photos and posted them illegally, you can send my residual check home w/ Rusty next week!

Take care and happy play!

didnt u all get the memo about letting the commish's side win last week in honor or his overcoming late stage syphillis and the related painful yellowish brown discharge that accompanies it?

That was the only slewfoot picture that was available. As for the lovely young lady pictured, if she is wearing to much clothing for you maybe you need to try a pay site. Don't forget your squeegie.

Bobby Rickey, driver of the Special K car, dropped out of the race this weekend...I guess he didn't clean his room and couldn't play with the toys...Racer X finished 3rd out of a field of 17, first in class (two types of NASCAR ran...for those that follow that type of thing, I drove a CoT - car of tomorrow - Impala) 196 laps in 18 minutes of track time...came out of the slot a total of 3 times, and missed second by half a lap...oh well.

As for the morning hockey thing...I am going to reach out to the guys that run the skate at the Spectrum...see if they want to play a game...

Here are the specs:
7:15am
Spectrum
Not sure when it would be if they agree to it, but it would be a week day morning.
They must win...you can't take the puck from Luukko...no fighting, even if they are dicks...ask Crut, Spongee and JD about the "rules"...

I figure we need 10 guys and one tender. Curty and I could be diplomats and negotiate the date...

Oh, and we have to wear dark...

Ask Curty...if Luukko and Page play then yes...if not then who knows...but they've got some young kids that can skate.

Here is the e-mail I sent...

Hi Cheri!

I would appreciate it if you could please pass a message on to Peter for me...I wanted to see if he would be interested in playing a full game one morning at the Spectrum. Curt Wilson and I skate with a good bunch of older guys that "get it"...we probably could field at least 10+ skaters and a goalie with a little bit of advanced notice...please let me know if there is interest.

Please pass along my regards.

Thanks!

Brit

I'll update the blogisphere if I get a response... imagine we will have to leave a certain Sponge and a slew foot at home if it's a go?

Two men collapsed on the ice while playing recreational hockey at Sharks Ice in San Jose and died within hours of each other on Sunday night.

Brian Kobata, 38, of Morgan Hill was playing with his team, Mug Shots, and had just scored a goal against the A Team, when he grimaced and fell down, Kobata's wife, Heidi, said.

Two teammates tried to save Kobata by giving him CPR and using a defibrillator, a San Jose Fire Department spokesman said. Paramedics were called at 9:06 p.m. and he was taken to a hospital.

In another game that started at 11:15 p.m., Kelly Calabro, 41, of Alameda was leading his team, Beer, in a comeback against The Shenanigans, when he fell on his back. Calabro's teammates also tried CPR but failed to revive their friend.

"It's a very unfortunate and tragic situation," said Ken Arnold, senior director of communications for Silicon Valley Sports and Entertainment, which operates the facility at Tenth Street and East Alma Avenue.

Sharks Ice, which is the official practice rink for the San Jose Sharks, is home to the largest adult hockey league in the nation, with 3,000 registered players. However, the strenuous sport can be hard on older players. Arnold said ambulances are called to the rink about once every 18 months.

The cause of death has not been determined for either man, family members said.

Heidi Kobata was at the rink watching her husband skate off the ice on Sunday night when he suddenly fell.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She is expecting the couple's first child in June and said her husband had not had any health problems.

She said Kobata loved hockey and electronics and his motorcycle. Born in Mountain View, Kobata attended Prospect High School in Saratoga and later graduated from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo with a degree in finance.

"He was a wonderful husband and he would have been a wonderful dad," she said. He was an internal auditor for Anritsu, a Japanese company with a manufacturing plant and U.S. headquarters in Morgan Hill.

Thad Leingang, a member of Beer, said Calabro had been captain of the team for 15 years. "Kelly's theme was once a Beer, always a Beer," Leingang said.

Leingang said the team all had nicknames and Calabro's was "Guinness." "He was 6-foot-4; when he's on the ice people feared him," Leingang said. Off the ice, however, Calabro was a soft-spoken computer nerd whose two passions were hockey and World of Warcraft, a popular computer game.

His mother, Patricia Calabro, said he graduated from Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek and received a bachelor's degree in computer science from California State University-East Bay. She said Calabro, who was living alone in Alameda, had high blood pressure but no other health problems. He worked at Schneider Electric in Alameda.

"One of his dreams was to play hockey," she said.

Here are the dates that I suggested down at the Spectrum...

Mon 3/16
Wed 3/18

They don't have any events those nights...and 3/17 is national drinking day...which actually would be kinda-cool celebrating at the Spectrum...

Here's how I would like to play this:
No wives, kids or spectators...don't need to worry about people walking around the Spectrum...only guys that have skated with us this season are invited...and we need to bring beer.

I'll keep uze posted.
